Remembering Coach Miller
Robert Miller was a well-loved coach at Overton through 1970. He died January 25, 2011 after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.
Flowers have been sent on behalf of the Overton Alumni. Donations received here in honor of Coach Miller will be given to Overton High School physical education programs to purchase a living memorial in his honor. Donations are tax deductible.

Hernando - ROBERT WILLIAM "Bob" MILLER, 82, went to his heavenly home on January 25, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Ida Miller of Hernando; daughters, Barbara Parkhurst (Jerry) of Collierville, TN and Diane Rodriquez (Joe) of Germantown, TN; sons, John Miller (Mary) of Poplarville, MS, Mike Owens (Kelli) of Germantown, TN and David Owens (Amy) of Vancleave, MS; 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He also leaves a sister, Jean Baskette; a half-sister, Micki Buckner; and a stepmother, Marie Miller, all of North Carolina.
Bob was a graduate of Arkansas Tech University and received a Master's degree from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. He did additional graduate work at Memphis State University. Bob was a 30 year retiree from Memphis City Schools, where he was a teacher, coach, and principal. Coach Miller touched many lives through his coaching basketball, football, cross country, and track at Guthrie, Treadwell, Colonial and Overton High. He ended his career as a Principal at Frayser Elementary School.
Bob was a medic in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War, later transferring to the Army Reserves, where he rose to the rank of Colonel before retiring with a total of 42 years of active and reserve duty.
Bob loved working outdoors, especially planting fruit trees, growing a large vegetable garden and raising cattle for a number of years. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 27 at Hernando Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Services will be Friday, January 28 at 2 p.m. at Parkway Baptist Church, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. at the church. The family requests that memorials be sent to Parkway Baptist Church Building Fund, 50 N. Parkway, Hernando, MS 38632.
